Århundredet fra Erik Plovpennings tiltrædelse i 1241 til Valdemar Atterdag i 1340 begyndte sin årelange kamp for at genskabe et samlet kongerige er en dramatisk periode i Danmarkshistorien. De politiske magtkampe i perioden og udviklingen i landbrugs- og handelsforhold har ofte været behandlet, hvorimod møntøkonomien ikke på samme måde har haft historikernes opmærksomhed.

Kongemagtens krise - Det danske møntvæsen 1241-1340 er det første samlede studium af Danmarks møntbaserede økonomi og møntcirkulation i disse turbulente år. Den er baseret på periodens omfattende møntmateriale, men inddrager også skrevne og arkæologiske kilder. Bogen beskriver opbygning og administration af møntvæsenet samt mønternes funktion i samfundets økonomi og for kongemagten, og gennemfører en analyse af regional og lokal møntcirkulation i Danmark og Skåne.

The century from King Erik Plovpenning's accession to the throne in 1241 until the year 1340 when King Valdemar Atterdag began his year-long struggle to re-establish a joint kingdom is an eventful period in the history of Denmark. The political power struggles of that period and the development within agriculture and trade have often been dealt with whereas the historians have not paid similar attention to the monetary economy.

Kongemagtens krise - Det danske møntvæsen 1241-1340 is the first collective study of Denmark's monetary economy and the circulation of coins in these turbulent years. It is based on the comprehensive monetary material of the period, but includes written and archeological sources also. The book describes the structure and administration of the coinage and also the function of the coins in the social economy and for the Crown, and examines the regional and local circulation of coins in Denmark and Scania.
